Now, obviously, the colts from that breeding will still be much lower quality than their sire and will never make it through testing. I'm not after colts though. I am looking to flesh out my mare herd, it didn't recover from my year long vacation as well as I had hoped. This year I bred around 200 foundation mares to 9 and 10 gen studs. All the resulting colts were gelded, and all but a handful of the fillies are intact. I papered the geldings, to get an idea of their quality. They all papered in the A or B range. Over half were in the A range. If their female counterparts are of similar quality then they are all of far better quality than a foundation to foundation breeding would ever give me. There is also the bonus that the colts all make better show ponies then a foundation/foundation breeding would have given me.

My hope is that by continuing to breed this group of experimental offspring to higher quality studs I can improve the resulting mares quality faster than traditional breeding methods. I still expect it will take me several generations of recover my mare herd, but I am looking forward to seeing how quickly I can start producing gold papered mares again from this experiment.

She's not hom KP (not eligible for the club), but both of her parents are het KP. In the GMT lab if you click on the alleles, it says "Your horse has the ? allele for this Kit Promoter gene.
Kit Promoter is an untestable gene. You will always see the option to modify on an untestable gene but will only be charged if that horse does not already have that gene. No edits are available for this gene" rather than the "change ? to ? for 1 GMT token."

Shouldn't changing one or both of the alleles be an option? She definitely missed a copy (or both). I'm not sure I want to change her specifically, just trying to figure out how this works.
