Here is one of his sons who is very dark for being a brown, even though he does have sooty. His dam is very pale but doesn't seem to carry DP to me.

But I don't really know where to start. Is it better to test offspring to sire, or to a benchmark stallion? (How do you even decide on a benchmark stallion?). Is it even worth comparing to sire if the offspring has papered higher than the sire?
Ideally I would compare all of them to both sire and horses of the same gen,and keep what comes out best, but since it costs me $8K a test, I can't really afford to do that.

What does everyone recommend is a good starting point?
