I have several lines going at the moment:

- Ice line
- Snowflake line
- W10 line (this line is behind a generation hence the wacky paper levels - its foundation sire is a 2G C papered stud so I just breed him to horses that are also a generation behind and treat the whole line like that)
- DP line
- Black appaloosa line
- Grullo line
- General exceptional line (for everything that's from exceptional stock but doesn't fall into a line)
- General line (for everything that's non-exceptional stock but doesn't fall into a line)

My general criteria to keep a foal as a breeder is that it must be consistent, and must paper appropriately (B/Red for gen 2, A/Red or Blue for gen 3, A/Blue for gen 4) and studs must all be superior to sire (I do have 1 or 2 studs marked as geld once I get a superior son, just because they're the only stud of their generation).

Any suggestions on how to cull my herd of breedable mares down to a more manageable size? I just can't afford to buy barns at a fast enough rate to house all these foals (and I keep all foals that either meet my breeding criteria as breeders, or have a PT of 10 or higher as show horses).

He already carries one copy of DP, but I am not sure from which parent. My question is, will the GMT lab tell me which allele I can add DP onto? If you want to breed even, you need a pasture for your yellow/C horses, and one for your red/B horses. Lord help you if you want to separate colors too.

How do others manage this? I was thinking of using the pastures mostly for large scale breeding of foundation horses, then using hand breeding for the second generations on up. But I don't want to miss out on that sweet pasture bonus.

I managed to get my first Rank Special HH share yesterday (Catch a Blue Moon) and created a lovely WB mare.
I bred her to a foundation Black Appaloosa Rabicano stallion that I have not been able to bring myself to snip yet and got a little colt that I think is gorgeous:

He is so messy and fun! I just love how he turned out.
He passed the BA (which isn't much of a suprise) his testing isn't much to look at but I am wondering if it would be fun to start playing with him as a foundation for a fun coloured/messy line that I can work on breeding quality into.

I was just wondering if he is worth it and, if so, where to start.
What type of ladies do you think would pair well with him?
I understand that I need to be careful with Splash and Frame. I am still trying to wrap my head around all the genetics. @-)

I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas if you have any to share. Oh! And pictures! I am a visual person. :)

NaF Final Investment that I'm thinking of turning into a filly. I really like his genetics (carries S+ and sa) but he is bootstrapped and I know he probably won't pass BA (besides I have other better boys to use) so I'm considering making him a filly so I don't lose the chance of S+ and I already fixed his inconsistency. He is from a straw/auction egg so I can't even rebreed to try for a better version of him. My entire herd is bootstrapped so I don't mind that and June is the first month of my homebred babies being bred back to Star boys so I might wait until then to see what I get foal wise.
