Hi guys, just trying to start some draft foundation lines and am wondering whether I should be gelding the second generation colts who do not score higher than a C in stallion papering. Should I just be gelding any second gen "C"'s? When should paper levels in offspring start going up? (generation-wise)

Hopefully this makes sense, I am just trying to breed the best I can from the beginning with this line! :)

Thanks everyone

So, this question is to the more senior players, the big dogs if you were. I know the answers are going to very greatly and that its a matter of opinion but as a newbie I really want to know how you all do it. So here is the scenario. Your starting your line. Have everything finally set. A nice group to start with, mares in pasture. No more breeding individuals. You have graduated to the pasture where your new herd will stay and hopefully make lots of little foals. So, you breed, you have tons of foals. Obviously the first thing you do is run everyone through the major tests and any other test that is your preference. Whoever doesn't make the cut gets altered. As much as we all would love to keep them all only a few foals will actually get used in your next generation so what do you do with the foals who are still intact but for some reason or another wont make it into your next generation of breeding? Do you alter them and sell them as pretty show ponies? Try selling them intact? If you do sell them at what price and do you put stipulations on them? There are so many questions running through my head about this subject it really is over whelming to think about for to long. Help me out. What is the process that you all go through?

I understand that performance test scores are really only for show horses as it correlates to how well they will do as a show horse. My question is, does it actually mean anything for a breeding horse? This is stemming from a new group of foundation horses I made and one of them, I kid you not, got a PT score of 0.4. I put the horse through the geld/spay advice and SAT and the testing did not alter it. So I'm guessing that that horse in particular is going to be a breeding horse only and I should not bother to show it?

I have this mystery.

This evening I bought a 120 stall barn with IVs. When I went to edit its name, I found two barns listed as "Extra Barn." I thought that perhaps I'd forgotten buying a barn previously and so renamed the second one Brussels Barn (since it's to hold my draft horse line). It showed up in the list of barns at the top of the Primary Barn page. However, there was no other "Extra Barn" to be found in that list, which appears like this:

Primary Barn | Alba Barn | Brussels Barn | Burlington Barn | Canton Barn | Centerville Barn | Covington Barn | CrossRoads Barn | Granville Barn | GreensLanding Barn | Grover Barn | Hoblet Barn | Lennox Barn | LuthersMills Barn | Milan Barn | New Albany Barn | Roaring Branch Barn | Rome Barn | Sayre Barn | Smithfield Barn | Sylvania Barn | Ulster Barn | Waverly Barn | Windfall Barn | Wysox Barn

The second Extra Barn still shows up in the Edit Barn Names list but not in the drop down list for moving horses at the bottom of the barn pages.

Here is the Edit Barn Names list:

The barn number appears twice because I was experimenting with changing the barn's name, something I was able to do, although it never showed up in the list of barns anywhere else except in the name changing feature.

So, I probably did not purchase this extra barn after all, and I have no idea where it came from. It should be removed from this list, I believe.

Thanks.

Hey y'all,

So my dream here is a classic champagne appy to put snowflake on. Up til now I've had really good luck picking up rank special or perfect foundation horses for my GMT needs, but this time I'm not having much joy with that. I know I have a month, and I really am willing to be patient here, but i figure a lot of us are on or planning create sprees for candy ponies and figured it's worth this post.

I would really appreciate it if you post your HHs that give black, champagne and/or Appaloosa horses. Also perfect foundation or top notch producers! If you happened to get one of these and want to sell me your creates, I am looking for 2 or 3 year old colts.

I am willing to buy foundation stallions that meet my criteria, regardless of when they were created. Stallions must be foundations, less than 5 years old with no living foals. They must pass GA and SAT. I will buy horses on this sliding scale:

Champagne that is not classic: create price.
Black: 2750.
Appy that isn't black or champagne: 3k
Classic champagne: 5k
Black or champagne appy: 5k
Classic champagne appy: 10k

TNP: add 3K
Perfect Foundation: add 5k
Rank special: I will pay the going rate for that rank special (unused Catch A Blue Moon anyone?). I would expect to spend a minimum of 25k.

If you have color tested or PTd, I will reimburse you for that.
If you have stallion papered the horse and it is a C, add 3k to the price (covers the test plus a bonus).
If you have compared the stallion to a rank special (if it is not a perfect foundation or rank special) and it is AGA, add your test price plus 5k. (I know the test price varies depending on which upgrade you have).
If something extraordinary has happened (like a B papered foundation or spontaneous brindle) I will pay whatever extra you think is appropriate!

I would prefer that these horses not have cream, dun or roan but am willing to look at everything.

I only need one stallion in the end, so if someone comes forward with a rank special or perfect foundation I will not require any other stallions. I will still be looking for mares at that point but these prices are for stallions specifically.

Good luck creating your perfect horse everyone!

Ok guys, I know this is asked all the time but... I need culling help and advice.
I feel like every breeding season I have a ton of horses to breed and when I breed them, I dont really get what I want...
I feel like my selection of mares and stallions may need some quality control...
But first I have questions.
Should there be a point when I look at a PT and cull the horse? I like 10.0+ PT for my second gens, but should that even be a concern of mine?
Ontop of that, what are some good tips to keeping only good quality breeding stock? I have so many, I feel like my head is spinning.... and I guess I just wish I felt like I got the most out of them.
