So, we are well into pasture breeding for the season and I've been noticing something about my pasture foals, particularly in my established pastures with foundation mares in them, over the last couple of seasons. The mares have the full pasture bonus and the stallions are all AGA a rank special.

I have a really low free test alter rate, which is awesome. I usually have NO alters from Gelding Advice and from Showing Aptitude Test, but I almost always have 2-10 fillies spayed by Strict Mare Advice. Now, I find this super frustrating. I don't need a ton of colts, and I almost always get at least one colt that measures up to my standards out of every pasture, but I can actually use most of the fillies.

Am I doing something wrong? I'm culling mares via my three strikes rules and if they paper Yellow. I'm constantly rotating a few new mares into each pasture each season and it's not usually the new mares that are throwing the culled fillies.

I am not making notes about whose colts compare inferior to my benchmark and therefore using that to cull mares. Do I need to step that up, start adding that into my data? It would definitely up my cull rate because my gen 2 benchmark is pretty high.

I've got this awesome little liver red dun cob dude and I think I want to GMT him a little but I can't figure out what I want to do. I know I don't want to make him roan, grey, white, and definitely not frame, I have way too many foundation stallions with it already. I'd loooove to make him satin but can't afford it. *le sigh*

For all of the the horse testing\papering what do you recommend I do? Test and paper every single horse or only paper the "good" ones, or the ones I like the most.
Also what are the rankings for both testing and papering. I got 3 horses yesterday with "C"s and that seemed really bad to me but they are my favorite horses.

Also how do tattoos work? How to i get an image for my tattoo to show up on my horse? Do I need to commission someone to make me one?

#1 - Say you pasture breed and you get 5 colts total. Through the email you learn which one is the best. Does that automatically mean in a comparison that foal will be better than the other four? That way you don't have to waste the money comparing them all?

Only two of my horses are "in the black" and by less than 10 Haji's. I am breeder 9535 if you want to search my horses. I have only been playing for about a month and a half, so i know the new factor is still part of it.

How do you know when a stallion is a good breeder? When is a stallion high enough quality to advertise for stud fees? I know I have a few ponies where one parent was Het DP but how do you go about testing for that Het DP in the offspring? Do you breed the offspring to chestnuts, duns or palominos to try and get the liver/chocolate color? But I feel like, in the case of her dam, the filly might not have had the same opportunity to hit a PT of 9 or 10. Or is this not the case? I know that showing and breeding ability aren't connected; however, I like to look at PT scores for improvement for the mares since my herd is still relatively new and small.]]>
