It's been awhile since my college genetics course, but I have a theory:
I would guess that genetically this horse is a Gray, with Bay underneath. In the early embryonic stages some of the horse's cells would experience a mutation that "breaks" the gray gene in those specific cells. As the embryo's cells continued to split and form the fetus, the "unbroken" cells multiply and develop to show a patch of coat with the gray color, while the "broken" cells multiply and develop to show a patch of coat with the bay color. True or False?

1. A classic champagne would be black without the champagne gene.
2. A sable champagne would be bay without the champagne gene.
3. An amber champagne would be buckskin or perlino without the champagne gene.
4. A gold champagne would be palomino or cremello without the champagne gene.

And it looks like smokey creme with Champagne isn't even called champagne, at least in the game.]]>
