I am just going through a lot at home right now. A lot. I use this site as a majority to give my mind some respite from my daily life and it's become even more important to my sanity recently.

I have spent 6 years of my life caring for a dear woman who was diagnosed at 30 years old with Parkinsons. She has become a maternal figure for me as my home life was never a great one, she's a dear friend, and one of the most genuine people I have ever met. Shes young, not even 70 yet. Through Fathers Day weekend she declined so rapidly that when I came home on Monday, I took one look at her and started making phone calls to her family and friends. We are so lucky to have Hospice services and they do wonderful work. I'm no stranger to end of life care, but this one is hitting me hard.

My guy friend got jumped and pistol whipped yesterday by a group of thugs...went in for stithes and found out he has stage 3 stomach and testicular cancer...and he's 20. His girlfriend's (my friend too) best friend OD'd on heroine two nights ago. She had no history of substance abuse prior to this.

My mind is overwhelmed. My heart hurts.

I come here to get away and relax. I went to flush my group of mares who were ready today and accidentally mass flushed three of them and knocked my funds dramatically back. I'm lucky I have 16,000 hbs a day coming in, and I should be able to make up what is lost eventually. But until that happens I may step back a little bit and sell some genetics I have sitting around to try to raise some funds back up.

I'm not asking for anything from anybody except a shoulder to lean on and some positive words. This week has really taken a toll on me, and we aren't quite through yet.

Please send your best thoughts and vibes to my dear friend.

Thank you for listening.

Okay so this is kind of a “humongous achievement that I’d never think I’d get to” kind of thing but I need to share my excitement somewhere!

So we need a little back story. Ever since like 3rd or 4th grade I have been ungodly horrible at history; I have always failed tests or did horrible on them and could barely keep my average grade above passing throughout the whole year. In 8th grade I always had an average of about 67 more likely lower to 66 or 65 and I failed almost every test because I absolutely hated the subject and the teacher wasn’t really the best and I never understood. Last year I had a single 76 which happened to balance out my grade for when I failed the final with a 55. I wrote a HORRIBLE essay (maybe three sentences for a 12 sentence subject and only one main paragraph where 3 would have been sufficient). I even had a “special help” teacher move me into his study halls so I could be helped this year because I did so horrible on the final.

Now for this year! Before school started I had always been known to hate global and to always “stand at the edge of the cliff” per say, but maybe the first couple weeks of school we started to take quizzes and I thought I would fail every one. I only failed maybe 4 throughout the whole year and that was because my stupid self didn’t read what I was supposed to read. But now to the last three weeks of school. I knew the regents (huge state tests that everyone in the state is required to take from that class at the end of the year) was coming up but I was going to wait till the last couple weeks to really start buckling down and studying hard and that’s exactly what I did. Probably studied for more than 30 or 40 hours the four or five days before the regents and I went to the review that morning and went to take the test and spent the three hours in that room and I finished that last work of my last essay the very second he said that the time was up. The day after I got a rough estimate of how well I did on the multiple choice; I only got roughly 4 wrong out of 30 but didn’t know my overall score till earlier. I checked my emails and I see a message from my teacher and it said that I got a 90! I was (and still am) beyond speechless, so impressed with my score that I started crying.!

Post your funniest jokes, stories, and pictures to help cheer me up.

Over the weekend we got news that my main show horse and equine love of my life's career is over due to high ringbone (basically arthritis with bone growth around the pastern joint). While it is still in the beginning stages and not affecting the joint yet, we believe it's in his best interest to retire him to a lighter career to keep him sounder for longer and not cause him undue pain. He has been a key part of helping me move back up the levels and even pull a few checks. I had leased him for ages and only recently bought him. Thankfully I am very close to his old owner and she is refunding the purchase price and holding onto him until our new farm for the oldies is finished and fenced in where he will retire to a light flat career. Needless to say, I've been down in the dumps and feeling a bit numb after that shocker. I have other horses that I can continue to show on, but he is something extraordinary.

Ever since I was really little, I've wanted my own horse. My family was never the richest though, and we lived in an apartment throughout my whole childhood; It had been my dream for years. Well, I sorta just gave up on it.. (knowing that I don't have a lot of money, nowhere to put him/her.) And I know that's terrible, but I did. Well ever since I found this game, it's sparked my love for horses (and animals in general) so I've been doing a little research on what horses would fit me better, not just looks wise but also temperament, and I found one breed that I absolutely FELL IN LOVE WITH and that met all of the requirements that I'd decided on.
That horse is a type of draft called the shire horse, one of the biggest breeds of horses and (in my opinion) the prettiest.
The past couple days I've been scowering the web looking at pictures of them and dreaming, and I finally am starting to take action. For the next year or two, any extra money I get will be saved, and once I get my tax refund all of it will be put towards this cause. I've found a stable where I can board the horse until I get my own house, and the people there offer full care (which is kinda spendy, but I'll need it since I just got a full time job) which I'm taking it. It'll take a year or two for me to save all of the money I need, but in the end it will totally be worth It to finally get my own horse! :)
The reason I made this post is that I need some tips and tricks, (as well as to share the exciting news! I cant even contain myself right now :D) and maybe some advice from other players that own actual drafts/horses. My half sister has a horse and she taught me the basics, but she is also new to the horse business so I thought I'd ask y'all!

Here is the shire horse that I want:

https://goo.gl/images/TAuns4

So just thought I would share. Getting my goats' blood drawn today for testing. Here's hoping my doe is pregnant and will have some little pygmy babies next month! (really wish I could have gotten this done sooner but the person doing the draws is always busy). 5 goats total; 1 buck, 3 wethers, and a doe. So everybody cross your fingers that Blizzard is pregnant!

Blizzard:

Storm, Blizzard's first "accident"...:

Russell, Blizzard's half brother:

Tom, my only non-pygmy (besides Storm who is half pygmy, half Nubian). All three have started pulling fur and making their nests :x I can't wait! It's been almost a year since my last litter. All are purebred mini lops bred for show and their sire is an 'almost' grand champ (at fair last year the judge said his only fault was that he was too young and once he's older, he'll be hard to beat :D ). And these are all his litters so I can't wait to see what he throws!
Since it popped up in a discussion on damage these crazy pixel horses do to themselves/our barns, I thought it might be fun to see what kind of trouble our real life horses and ponies managed to get into.

Some of you might have seen this already...

I had a MAJOR CLUTZ of a thoroughbred/percheron cross.

My boy, Zeus, in his lifetime..managed the following...and more....

1. Straddle a fence line...sideways. I still have NO IDEA how he managed that.
2. Get a mountaineering carabiner stuck on his upper lip. That was a fun chase.
3. Remove all the paint from a car hood, by scraping with his teeth and eating it.
4. Get his jolly ball stuck on a back hoof.
5. SELF HOBBLE HIMSELF. No, he was not tied up, and the lead rope had been untied
and loose on the ground.
6. Trip and bite thru his tongue. At a walk, on flat packed earth.
7. Decide the dogs agility course looked like fun....
8. Rip his fly blanket straps...hello fly cape...
9. Decide to STEP OVER another horse sleeping on the ground...his long ass legs
didn't care when her stout self stood up.
10. Find the ONLY BLOODY NAIL sticking out of the fence....rub ass against it...looked
like a cat had shredded him. Refuse to come in for treatment until bribed.

The colt I trained in College, DR Docs Bar King, earned his barn name of Loki...

1. Pulled off his front pair of shoes, the day after shoeing, by setting his hooves on the fence, hooking the gap at the back and pulling. He went barefoot after that.
2. We had half gates on the stalls, with a 2 ft gap at the bottom. He laid down and wiggled under the door. (His full brothers and sisters have apparently done this as well over the years.)
3. Pretend to be lame to get out of reining training. Get turned out into the pasture for the day...proceed to run, buck and be a brat...refuse to get caught again.
4. EAT MY BRAND NEW BOOTS. (not play with..he actually ripped and ate the uppers.)
5. Figure out the latch mechanism on the stalls. Wiggle out...let the whole damn barn loose.

And SO MUCH MORE...seriously..Loki earned his name. (his brothers name was Houdini if that gives any clues...)

So, Timelessstars just posted about getting her first horse (Congratulations, again, Timless!) and it got me reminiscing about my first horse(s)!

I am a preachers kid (or, as I like to say: Theologians Offspring...MUCH classier! :P ), and when I was in middle school a member of my dads church, who knew how horse crazy I was, said he knew where there was a horse that was a pasture pet, but he had broke and trained it so it was rideable. They set me up with the family who had bought the horse because it was born the same day as their first grandchild, but they knew NOTHING about horses!

Ladybird was a 1/2 QH, 1/2 Walking horse 3 year old when I first started riding her. We could never figure out what color she was, but now I know she was Amber champagne. I had taken lessons for years, but having a horse I could play with any time I wanted was GREAT! The owners didn't have a whole lot of money, and neither did we, and the pasture was in a not so great part of town, but by golly I was out there every day after school and stayed until well past dark!

I used a bent screwdriver as a hoof pick, and made a lunge whip out of a broken golf club and an old rein. I showed in local shows, in any class I could possibly enter! My mom made my chaps, and I made yarn reins and the, then popular, yarn tassles for behind the saddle pad.

After I went away to college my sister took over. After college I moved to Los Angeles and a trainer I volunteered for ended up giving me a Doc Bar bred cutting horse colt that I had raised (in lieu of payment for years of giving lessons). I eventually sold him to a lady who was getting started in dressage.

Here is a picture that H&J member Sunwolf did for me ages ago, of Ladybird and my bay colt, Oaks Tomcat. The dog was my once in a lifetime dog, Cassidy. The picture is titled 'Summer Dreams'

Now I want to hear YOUR first horse stories! Even if you didn't acutally OWN the horse!

Depending on when the swelling goes down, they'll either do surgery on it later this week or early next. So, I'll be less active in the buddy chats, etc. for awhile, but will still be around. If anyone has any useful tips for coping with this kind of injury, I'd be grateful for your advice. :(

I need help with the appaloosa gene. I was accepted as a fantasy horse breed artist but I'm not very good with the appaloosa genes and needed some help. I'm the first artist on the breed so I want it to be simple but someone accurate for future accepted artists.

What affects the size of the pattern? Is it white factor and w20 or is there more?

These are the appaloosa pattern they want included. What are their alleles?
With ones that don't have a proven allele what do you think would be the most probable set up
Blanket: lplp ecap+/patn+
Varnish: no allele, probably dominant so could be shown with just one copy? Example: lplpv
Snowflake: (only shows when recessive) lplp snsn
Fewspot: lp ??
Snowcap: lp ??
Leopard: lplp patn1patn1
Frost: is it just another name for varnish? Maybe varnish with a specific placement?

I used to breed leopard and a few fewspots/snowcap but apparently I wasn't very good at it XD

Thanks in advance

So I bought a herd of sheep and they were all pregnant, and quite a few of them looked like my horses in my barn! One of them looks like my current stud, and 3 of them looks like the champagne foal I have. But I have a question: How the heck do you get them to trust you? Every time I take a step, the whole herd runs in a circle for 20 minutes freaking out. (I have 40 sheep so it takes them awhile to calm down.)
Also I have a ram that is colorful (black, white, brown, tan, and an almost blonde colkr) and a few colorful ewes so I was wondering if I should breed them for color or breed to the 10 white ones to see what I get.? I'm not good at genes so if you help thanks!

I’m going to be spending the summer training her my goal is to have her solidly broke by July. If everything goes well I’d like to breed her in a couple years.

I know I will never genetic test her for color but I’d like to figure out what color genes she has. That way I can sort of know what her color possibilities are for babies. I happen to know most of her family tree so that should help. I’d love to have everyone’s imput on what genes it looks like she could have. I’ll try to post pictures too.

This is the ranch I got her from she’s related to a lot of the horses there through her sire. Evans Quintus. Her dam is Sapphire.
Her dam sire is EMR Justice,
Her moms dam is Jewl
https://cherryridgeponies.weebly.com/
