Hello, HuntAndJump!

I'm looking to lease a horse for the summer while I'm not in school and have the time to ride. I'm having some difficulties figuring out how to find a horse to lease. I've tried some online sites and reached out to one of my friends who is still working with horses. My trainer from when I took lessons no longer works with horses and most of the other people I know who do are still riding hunter/jumper.

I picked up a western saddle and mostly just want to ride for fun in an arena or on some trails.

Any recommendations on how to find horses for lease? I have about two months before I will be home and I'd like to have some horses lined up to look at by then.

Was going to out this on a fish forum but I know I didn't take all the precautions I could have and didn't want the flak for it.

I don't know if any of you keep fish so I'll give a bit of information first. I have goldfish (along with other tropical tanks) goldfish are very filthy and require lots if space and filtration. A single tail (commonly need 75 gallons per fish and fancies need between 30-40 gallons for the first and 10-15 for each extra. Goldfish that are kept in small spaces (e.g a little tank or bowl) will become stunted.
Because of selective breeding and mass production many goldfish suffer from certain defects.
More about my fishies. I started keeping goldfish almost 5 years ago and knew nothing about proper care. I had 2 fancies in a 10 gallon one of which died very soon the other grew to be a nice 5 inches (minus tail) but sadly dies after having a bad bacterial infection that I tried treating repeatedly.
I currently have a nice cycled 75 gallon tank. It holds 4 goldfish and 6 white clouds. This would be fine except one of those goldfish is a stunted 4 year old common. He is in the tank because of the move, I was unable to bring his pond with us.
Now because of this fish (Phillip) one of my favorites is now sick. I noticed the little guy was having some problems before we moved. Looked like simple bruising on his side, only it didn't go away. He now has what's known as swim bladder. Which is a side affect of bad water quality (over stocking) as well as poor breeding. I was hoping the poor thing would recover on his own but he isnt. Only getting worse.
My gorgeous little fishy now has what looks like a tumor slowly forming where the "bruise" is. After studying him the most of the morning I have decided my best bet is to ease the fish of his pain. He can't swim properly and will eventually have a very painfully tumor. He also appears to be forming other sores/tumors on his belly and face.

I'm really upset as I've had this fish for almost 3 years and he was a rescue. I got him on sale from my local fish store. He was small "ugly" and had something wrong with his face. I worked for months to get him back to health once it was clear he wasn't ready to croak. He is now such a pretty fish and it's such a shame.
I keep telling myself he's just a fish and no one cares, because really people flush fish every day. But it's not working. I think I'll probably cry after euthanizing him (I don't believe is flushing a live animal, you should flush any animal it's hard on the plumbing not to mention breaking the body down and filtering it out...)

Sorry for the super long post, just had to vent it out a bit. I'm sure my lovely SO will try to order me a nice shiny fish to replace him but I see my fish the same way as my dogs. Family

Blah. Okay. So, I've been hemming and hawing about posting anything, because generally I try not to complain on the internet about... anything, really. BUT! Since none of you lovely citizens of HaJ know me irl (probably, hopefully) I've decided I'd like to vent a bit. I think even if no one responds, it will feel good to write this stuff down, and I can't find my journal. <del>Dang nabbit.</del>

Anyways.

I am a college student in an equine program. I am also a transfer and am roughly 4 years older than the other students in my grade. Long story short - I went to art school, got 3/4 of the way through an illustration degree, realized 'Oh, whoops, this is not for me', took two years off to work in the equine industry and take a few classes at a local community college and am now I am enrolled full-time at a wonderful university and working towards a BS in equine management with plans to go on to get my master's degree in a related (equine) field. I love the university I'm at now, I've learned so much especially in my riding and training and equine health.

The tricky parts are these:

I kind of suck at school. Not in a 'I try my best and get Ds anyways' kinda way but in a 'WHY can I not control my brain?! What is even happening up there, why are you thinking about non-Newtonian fluids instead of reading the textbook you should be?!' kind of way. When I DO wrestle my brain into submission and get the work done, I always pull good grades, I care immensely about the work I'm doing and I respect every single one of my teachers SO MUCH and I don't want to disappoint them... But I'm just so weirdly touch-and-go with when I can get myself to work and when I can't. I'm sure at least a couple of you on here can relate.

I went ahead and got myself a boyfriend. Completely accidental, mind you. I'm new to this area and like I mentioned before I'm older than most of the people I interact with on a daily basis. Humans being social creatures and me being... sort of weird... I decided that instead of making friends like a normal person, I'd just get a tinder and go on a bunch of awkward first dates/weird hook ups in order to feel like I was having meaningful interactions with animals from the same species that I am. So there I was, meeting MANY... um... *quirky* people and then I stumble on this total gem of a guy with black hair that falls in his (truly spectacular, very dark brown) eyes in these really awesome loose curls and... *hem hem* I won't bore you with the details but suffice to say - I left school for winter break single and fearing for the future of mankind... Came back head over heels and utterly distracted from the very important and already tricky for me and my wacked-out brain work of out-of-class assigments.

It seems stupid to let something like a BOY of all things distract me from what is literally a life-long dream for me, but I'm so... infatuated, I guess. Ugh. Anyways. Thanks so much for letting me get that out. Feel free to commiserate or offer advice.

Cheers and Happy Horsing!

Sterling <3

So this Friday nigh (February 10th) is a full moon, AND an eclipse ANNDDD, there's a comet!!!

The mare we have that's having her foal, she's started pacing and showing signs that's ages within days of foaling. As my mother had told me, she believes horses will foal on a full moon. With this in mind, there's an eclipse, not really sure but I think this is kind of like the full moon thing. Then there's a comet. Triple threat as some people have said. And with her acting like she is its more possible to happen!

Another 'story'

We got a miniature horse because my mom wanted one and she was hoping she was going to have a foal. Turns out she had a false pregnancy (as she's over 30 years old and been bred almost every year) so we got a few more on a lease to get a baby from one or two of them (we got one). We had a filly name all picked out (we were going to name her Tequila Rose or Rosie after my aunts dog who passed away shortly before. Instead we got a colt and named him Tobias (from the movie Divergent). A year and a half later, we saw the mare on an auction site and my mom saw her and HAD to get her ( the picture was 'ugly' as she's got horrible conformation and it just gross and dirty) to this day my mom can't tell why she got her. I chose the name Beatrice for her because Beatrice is also from divergent and I just couldn't think of a better name. (We've had her for nearly 5 months so far) we are now hoping to get a filly so we can name it Tequila Rose. But if it happens to be a colt (I'm debating whether ot not I want to name him Texas Whiskey and call him Tex or name him after the full moon, the eclipse, or the comet if he happens to be born this Friday. Probably Blue Moon, Eclipse, or Honda (Honda because that's part of the comets name).

It's only Wednesday and I'm pretty anxious to to see how fast Friday comes :)) I'm quite excited to see what color the baby is! (She was an auction horse and was bred before we got her so it could be ANY color or really any breed. It's probably going to be a little chestnut pony like her but you never know)

I think I covered everything for now! I'll update you again when she has it!

So, I'm a mom of one lovely 7yr old boy. Due to severe complications it was recomended I get neutered. I did. Met a wonderful man shortly after been together for some time now. He knew I was spayed from the start. We lost his dad in november, his mom spoke of grandchildren during the arrangements. Now he's talking in his sleep about making babies so he can have a princess. We are not married but happily talking about it for in the near future. When awake and asked about it he claims indifference, but men rarely share feelings. Love the man and would be happy to, but im not able. My son broke my back and gave me a blood clot the size of texas(my WHOLE left femoral vein solid clot). I'm kinda stuck and need some outside womanly input. any men with insight are welcome too.

So, as of last night, my paren't farm is up to 20 baby goats since jan 19, not including the babies we are boarding. Two of my does have kidded and had some nice babies, and last night we had a fun little surprise.
One of the babies had moonspots! It is a very desired dominant gene that my Mom has been wanting to get, but we were sure we didn't have. It is dominant, and usually quite flashy, we would know it if we had it, right? So we are looking at this kid and wondering where the moonspots came from. Mother is an older doe and we have never seen moonshots in her kids. Buck is younger, but we have had 10 kids with him before this and we didn't see any moonspot with his kids either, though we never really looked either. Went and checked him anyway, and he has one moonspot underneath his left elbow... LOL. Have to be careful about those flashy spot patterns, because sometimes they aren't so obvious. Haha.

Hello Everyone!

I am not sure if this is allowed, I read through a couple discussions under here and don't see why it wouldn't be. I am in a photo contest with my real mare, J's Peace Tamboa.
She is a retired race horse due to a bone splint in her knee. I've owned her sense she was three. Its been over five years. I love her dearly.
We were in training for show season when she started to go off and on lame, then she got really bad. We decided to get x-rays and to be great despair September 2016 Peace was retired due to lamintis. I never got to win a blue ribbon with her as a dreamed to.

Well I have my chance to win one, it might not be an actual show but I want to win this ribbon for her, but I need your help. We are in a popularity photo contest. I need you to take a few minutes and go like our picture to help us win! The contest ends tonight and we are so close to first!

The page is Winning Whinnies Online Horse Show on Facebook. We are in Class Four: Popular Pony. Our picture is the chestnut mare with a light blue halter and polo wraps. The caption is "J's Peace Tamboa entered by Rebecca Darling".

So Please go take a minute and give it a quick like!
