I will give away 5 homebred show ponies age 10 or younger to everyone who enters this give away. For most of you, at least 4 of the ponies will have 500+ points. You have the option to request a pony that expresses a particular gene and that pony may still be quite young and not have many points yet.

I breed for almost everything in game that has been sold recently (except snowflake, so please don’t ask) so have show ponies with most genes to give away. Remember anyone can own closed gene altered ponies. I don’t have the ice genes that haven’t come up on roving sale yet like Ice 13.

This contest is open to anyone in the game, regardless of how long you’ve been playing or how big your show bonus is. It is also open to extra accounts, but if you choose to enter multiple accounts you need to do a full extra entry for each account.

My little sister and I used to sneak watch Hercules: the legendary journeys and Xena Warrior Princess and making popcorn when my parents would go out in the evenings back when we were growing up. I always burned the popcorn (always! It remains the only thing I’m not good at cooking today). Yes, we were very wild children.... anyway, I found the box sets of the two tv shows and am giving them to my sister along with a box of microwave popcorn so she can initiate her own daughter into this ritual! Funny how something as small as rolling a Wet n Wild can turn a whole week around. In less than four days I've gotten an infected ingrown toenail; had my fudge I just bought stolen by the roommate's dog who ate the whole square, saran wrap and all after I left it on the coffee table; dropped my tablet and cracked a corner of the screen; stayed up way too late going through the freezer, fridge, and pantry in a deep clean; and to top it all off, got a flat tire on the way to work today.

No better day to have this week's sermon be on gratitude, huh?


It's true, though, that gratitude for the little things can really shake up perspective, as I was abruptly reminded this morning. When I finally did get to work, there was a bird book sitting on my desk, a birthday present from my boss. I logged in here and rolled a WnW. It made me think about the little things - like how even though my fudge was eaten by the dog (who thankfully is fine, it was white chocolate caramel and the saran wrap doesn't seem to have affected him), the roommate bought me more. Even though I cracked my tablet screen, it's a small crack and everything is functioning just fine. The deep clean is satisfying to have done, even if I need to take a nap later today - and my best friend left her work to give me a ride. As for the toe, well, it's slowly getting better and the swelling is going down.

In the spirit of gratitude for the little things, I'd like to give one of my WnWs away to one of you, you people who make up this amazing community that never fails to put a smile on my face.

Linked above (If I did it right) is a punnet square. Both parents are Aa Aa, so using a method like the box above, we can take the possible alleles (side for sire, top for dam) then record the possibilities in a list. When we look at the foal we can tell if it's black, or bay. If the horse is black, then there is only one possible combination aa. Which is only a 1/4th chance, but if we know that the foal is black by looking visually we have a fairly sure guess. If the horse is bay, then it could be AA Aa or aA. But now at least there is a 1 in 3 chance of getting it completely right instead of 1 in 4. But.... of course... it can't really be that simple....

Let's talk about red, and black based.





If a horse is ee then they can only be variations of red based (chestnut, palomino, liver chestnut, gold champagne etc. ) Regardless of whether they are Aa, AA or aA. So if they horse is red based then its back to a pure guessing game on those alleles.

If a horse is black based (Ee EE eE) then they can be brown, bay, black, wild bay, and the many, many other variations there of.

There's the basics (and please feel free to correct me on my mistakes), but there are many, many genes on this game and their unique rules of interaction, so the best way to learn is by practice! I'll list the basic rules of how I score, then I'll keep links here on whatever the newest competition is. As a bonus to practicing genes I try to sell the highest PTed most unique foal I have. I try really hard to pick foals that are at least 11.5PT, and a couple times I even managed to get a 12PT. I've also had a few generous donations.

Basically, for every missed allele, I take -1 points. Since a lot of players normally have are fairly close on their answers I decided to break it up even more, so order counts as well. So if the "correct" is Aa then aA, or AA+ are all minus 1. aA+, and AtA+ are both -2. I would err on the side of putting all genes down, even if they are recessive and don't show. If they are there on the horse, but you don't have it in your answer, then its minus two. If the horse is het. for it, and still show both recessive then its only -1. The first tiebreaker is white factor. The second tiebreaker is whomever posted first. Although for scoring I am only looking at the genetics, please do write down the word name of the color.

So I'm thinking about next season having a Foal Swap! Im going to break it into two categories.

BREEDING STOCK
1. Foal must be evenly bred by generation (foundation x foundation, g2 x g2, g3 x g3, etc).
2. Foal must be sent through genetic testing, breeding advice (SBA preferred but not everybody has this), and performance testing.
3. NEW ADDITION!!!! Closed genes totally 100% ok if you both own the gene!!

WHITE ELEPHANT
We'll call this the "other" category. With this category, you donate a foal of your choice. It could be a super expensive foal, or a complete dud. A show pony. Something with unique genes. Something that passed SBA that doesn't fit into your program. Bootstrap foal. OR a complete mystery foal - something straight out of the pasture! Altered closed genes accepted here!

You must enter a foal to receive a foal in this swap! You can enter up to 4 foals total, and up to 2 in each category.
