Mushroom In Real Life!


Mushroom is a real homozygous recessive gene, found in the Shetland breed. The exact location is not known but they know roughly where it is located and there is now a test for the gene. The Mushroom gene appears to acts only on red pigment and desaturates the color leaving a sepia hue to the coat. Manes and tails range from slightly diluted to near pure white. For a long time there was speculation if the gene was even real. The color is not quite cream, not quite dun, not quite silver.

You can purchase mushroom now through June 14th. As soon as the calender hits the 15th it's gone.
Mushroom is a closed gene and requires a breeder license (comes with your purchase) to breed.
You must have two copies and visible "red" pigment for mushroom to show.
The gene is testable but will not appear in the color name.

  • Chat rooms now have the option to restrict by genes. Anyone can put gene restrictions on their chat room, but you must be own whatever gene license you are restricting by. So anyone who owns Ice 9 can make a licensed Ice 9 chat room.
  • Members can only join chat rooms for which they own all the restricted by genes. The Axiom RBG chat room requires the owning of all 3 Axiom genes to join. But the Axiom red chat room only requires red to join.
  • If you were a member of the combined Axiom chat room, I purged that room. You will need to request to join again. If you were a member of the combined Ice 9 & 10, I deleted that chat room. The rooms are now split.
  • You are no longer required to be a member of the "official" chat room for that gene. You can join as many or as few gene restricted chat rooms as you like. (provided you own the right licenses).
  • There is no filtering on what horses can be put for sale or breeding in each chat room. . So you can put a cyan axiom for sale in a public chat room it will not stop you. BUT...
    • The game now stops people from breeding to any horse with a closed gene they are not licensed for.
    • It will also stop you from purchasing a horse with genes you are not licensed for, or purchasing genetic material from a horse with genes you are not licensed for.

  • All official chat rooms are now by request to join. If you have the genes for it please do ask to join.
  • There is also new chat rooms for those who own every ice, every rainbow riot, and the diamond club for those who own every licensed gene.

    On the morning of April the 28th we will shutdown this instance HJ2 completely and create a mirror version of the database on the brand new physical server. This process can take several hours to upload the large databases we use. We will re-point the domain to the new IP address/instance during that time. The new instance will be identical to the old and you won't be able to tell any difference.

    Here is the catch. For most users you will be re-pointed to the new instance in about an hour. You may see a message that we are still updating, but the page will tell you if you are still viewing the old instance or are on the new one. Some internet providers use lazy DNS systems and may take several days for you to see the new instance. During that time you will not have access to the site via that ISP. Some users may even need to manually flush DNS records (instructions will be provided) to force an update.

    So plan ahead for the end of April folks.


    (For you fellow 90s kid our physical server is called Hexadecimal. The new one is called Scuzzy.     So here is my solution, and it is going to fundamentally change new member experience and older/new member interaction.

    Now if you have less than 20,000 total held points in your account (that's just over a 2k a day bonus) any foundation you create starts with a few hundred points (average of 250, and can rarely get up to 1k points). It also tells you as you create how many points and what they daily pay out for those points will be.

    Here is how this addresses the above issues.
    1) Both the horse page and the create a horse page is in your face about what a show horse is worth. It is easy to see your barn grow in daily income and that drives home the point that you NEED those show horses.
    2) These show horses are earning at MOST 100 hbs a day. Most closer to 25 a day. That isn't a ton but you don't need a ton as a small barn. That extra 60k a month is enough to grow your barn off of and give you a solid footing in the game.
    3) It took me 90 horses when creating to hit 20k points. A starting barn has only 55 stalls (with welcome pack). That means the smart thing to do is toss your lower pointed foundations in the auction house. Get your money back on them, and then try for higher pointed creates. It's a good system to keep new players busy AND the side effect is that while a small barn might only want 300+ point horses because they only have room for that, the big barns are gonna be snatching up 200 point yearlings because they know the long run value of them.

    Other side effects:
    -Makes more sense to create yearlings now if you are under 20k.
    -Now small players have something to offer big barns (pointed young horses) and the big barns can offer the rare genes, and high PT pedigreed horses that they have. It levels the playing field between old timers and new when it comes to trade.
    -This isn't going to lower the sales price on pointed horses. They already were ignored in the auction. If anything this will drive up attention on them. Going to take some time for the economy to rebalance but I think we will see much more circulation of hbs and that is what you want in a strong economy.
    -I am sure the rare 1k yearling will go up for sale and make big money. Awesome! It's like getting an RS.     Known issues: If you try and run a bunch of requests at once (like opening a dozen pasture foal pages) you may end up with stuck pages that don't load. If you then try and refresh these images you will get an error (no need to post it we know what it is). At this time paying for a reroll is the only way to fix these images. We will be putting a patch in shortly for that but just be aware. Go slow on multi page first picture generations.

    Speed: This is a queued system. That means wait in line behind other image gen requests for your turn. We still need to get verbiage in there for you that says how long the que is and ramp up the server so it can run even faster.     I have adjusted the contest so that horses bred by darkstar no longer count towards point totals. It was just too random and location based on who got them. Obviously those horses still grant you lots of money so they are still worth having in your barn but they won't count towards winning the nexus horse. It's not the most ideal solution but it's what I can make work.

    I wanted to give a run down as to were things are at with the game.

    1) Been very happy with the stability of the server of late. This breeding season went very smoothly and it was even a double breeding season. We went from major speed and crashing issue just a few months ago to zero crashing issues. And I still have more room to optimize on that front!

    2) The horse page is the last public facing page left that needs converting to the new template. This is a huge page and it is going to be a dozy to work on, but it's my most important project for this week.

    3) We just yesterday finished the epic project of converting the horse generator to a queued off-site generator. We can now generate horse images without any resource use on our server. We still need to create the JavaScript that talks to amazon and gives you messages (like 3 of 5 in queue) and shows the image once finished but those are minor in comparison to the rest of the project. Can't wait to get that out for you.

    ***Quarter 2: Here are some of the things you can expect in the coming months. ***

    1) SERVER 2 MIGRATION! Don't forget at the end of April HJ2 is being moved to it's own dedicated server. (Right now it shares a computer with HJ1) That will mean some down time for HJ2 users but it will greatly increase how many users can access the server at once and further increase stability.

    2) As soon as template updates are completed we will be working on SSL certification for the site. There may be some odd site behavior while we finalize the switch but we expect this to be pretty seamless.

    3) The horse page is the last public facing page that needs converted to the new template but almost all of our pages still need to be converted to the updated JavaScript system. During quarter 2 (April through June) expect to see lots of changes to page functionality as I stream line the user expiration.

    4) Quarter 2 my focus will be on user experience. I will be adding lots of features for new members and upgrading our email systems so you can have a more seamless experience interacting with the site.

    Anyone who has not purchased anything in that 4 week period will be able to use pastures on the 7th. Since pastures are so expensive in server resources to run, this change allows those who are actively supporting server expenses to see some more direct benefits from that.
